All Star Tournaments Underway
All-Star Tournament play takes a break for the 4th of July Holiday before resuming on Monday. The Juniors and 12yr old All Star Teams are still in contention for the District 68 Title.
Juniors
In a back-and-forth battle, Santa Margarita Juniors All Stars came out on top of Tijeras Creek with a 12-11 victory on Thursday in San Juan Capistrano.
Next game for Santa Margarita is Wednesday, (7/8) at 4:30pm versus the loser of Monday's game between Trabuco Canyon and South Mission Viejo.
The Juniors dropped the opener to North Mission Viejo 3-2 and now need 3 victories as they battle their way through the Loser's Bracket to make it to the Championship game.
Little League All Stars (12)
The 4th of July fireworks show came early at Curtis Park as the 12yr old All Star Team rallied from a 6-2 deficit to beat tournament host Rancho Mission Viejo 14-10 on Wednesday. Trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the 4th, Rancho Mission Viejo's ace pitcher McSweeney reached the 85-pitch limit. The new pitcher inherited a two-out bases loaded situation with Kyle Sweet at the plate. With a swing of the bat, a grand Slam put the Thunder up 7-6.
RMV rallied back to take a 10-9 lead in the top of the 5th, but it would not be enough as Kyle Sweet hit a 2-run shot to again give Santa Margarita an 11-10 lead. Matt Ryhlick then hit a 2-run bomb to CF and Noah Thompson followed with a solo shot to give the Thunder a 14-10 lead. RMV couldn't rally in the 6th and Santa Margarita survived a scare to advance to the Winner's Bracket Championship on Tuesday against South Mission Viejo.
11yr Old All Stars
Congratulations to the 11yr old All Star Team on a great effort in tournament play. The 11yr olds were eliminated on Thursday by tournament host South Mission Viejo 5-2.
After a loss in the opener to San Clemente National, the 11yr olds began their battle through the loser's bracket by beating San Juan 11-0 on Monday before being eliminated by South Mission Viejo on Thursday.
10yr Old All Stars
Congratulations to the 10yr old All Star team for all the hard work and preparation for the All Star Tournament.
On Monday night, a late rally fell short as Santa Margarita fell to San Juan Capistrano 11-8 on Monday and was eliminated from the tourney. The 10yr old All Stars dropped their opener to Tijeras Creek LL 11-6.
